I remember snow
as my mom's whisper
Keep sleeping, sweetheart
there is no school today
the school bus can't make it through
I remember snow
in a mixing bowl
stirred with cane sugar
and vanilla to taste
maybe a splash of milk too
I remember snow
under a trash bag
too poor for a sled
but it was no big deal
sometimes a Hefty would do
I remember snow
on a lamplit street
one sweet silent night
when for the joy of it
I took a great leap and flew
Good one. :) Eli's school was delayed two hours today. No snow, just ice on roads. I want to come play in the snow too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Truly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to play in the snow soon! I actually tried to save a snowball one year in the freezer...
ReplyDeleteKara your poetry keeps reminding me why I wrote poetry. I may end up writing it again if I keep reading yours.... :)
ReplyDeletejackpoguecobb, you better!! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is the second pic I've seen of your leaps for joy. Smile... smile... asmiling they do leave me.
ReplyDeleteYour graceful hands (see: "Kara-oke") and feet/leg position (see: little pic above "Popular Posts") give you away from any angle and bespeak of a trained dancer?
Whatever the reason, I adore the cause (and effect). :)
Alas, I was never a trained dancer...but that doesn't stop me from jumping for joy every now and then! Lisa, do you remember how I would try to fit into your toe shoes? I wanted some so bad. I believe I may have also accosted your tap shoes from time to time:)
