Wrong sign

I was driving down the highway, on a bright sunny day -- not a cloud in the sky -- when I saw a bright orange flashing sign that said "FLOODED." I started wondering if it was left over from the rain last week, and somebody just forgot to take it down -- or if it was put up early in anticipation of some phantom rain in the future. And as I was pondering, I started laughing, thinking of all the unnecessary "FLOODED" signs that are up in my life -- left over from past disasters, or put there to remind me that there could be future rain. All the while, I'm completely missing the beautiful blue skies directly over me and the safe dry roads right underneath me. I was thankful for that wayward sign and it's poignant reminder of how ridiculous it is to dwell in the past and worry about the future when the present moment is looking pretty darn good. It's time to take down that wrong sign on the road...and it's definitely time to take down the distracting and equally as erroneous signs in my own life. The sky is not falling -- it's right where it's supposed to be, and for that, I am grateful.

  1. And 'sides, even if it (the sky) was falling... it'd prob still be right where it's s'posed to be. :)

As mom said when she caught herself wasting time worrying: "I forgot to remember to forget..."

  2. Though I'm also grateful for those who put things into perspectives that help others stay safe -- click (scroll down for reviews)

The book is an utterly fascinating insight into what most deny and/or posit as "something that happens to others".

  3. And speaking of "FLOODED!"....

Some H'wood type tweeted: "I can't believe this is happening in Japan. I feel sick."

I ask: "Why?" (mostly to the first sentence)

The only unnatural thing about that (or any) tsunami is all the man made crap they destroy. Nature, is reeeeally good at doing that (even/especially to her own creations).

She, in all her beauty, majesty and mystery, is an amoral, nonjudgmental, violent, malicious-less, stone-cold killer.

Fact: By the time our species hit the playground, the Head Mistress had annihilated 99% of all living things that had preceded our "save the planet" sorry asses.

Spring is about to be sprung... And I, for one, love its kaleidoscopic pageantry of life renewal. I also dig the onslaught of all those stingy bees, wasps and rattlesnakes that accompany those wondrous little humming birds all slipping outta Winter's chilly embrace (fyi: Winter, being my fave season).

Anyway... lemonade made from cherries-and-chocolate aint nearly so refreshing as the real deal is. And fire that does not burn offers no heat.

In short: It is what it is... just be thankful ya got to play along. :)

  4. Hey VL, thanks for reading and for sharing...I was thinking with all that you have to say, maybe for these longer comments they would be better in a blog than stuck in the comment section...do you have a blog? If not, you should start one!

  6. Only if you leave reeeally longwinded (worded) comments, will I post on my blog (yes, I has one). I believe 4600 characters are max for Blogger... :)

"Letters to the Editor" are so much funnier (easier) to write than are actual articles/stories. ;-)

Remember that fireside game they played in Out of Africa -- where one uttered a random sentence and the other would spin forth a tale from it?

Well, I'll prepare (and post) an opening paragraph at my "Diary of a Steppenwolf" soon... I'll await your comment (for you only) and reply with ongoing weirdness -- cool?

I'll also limit any further comments to twitter-ish length (and try harder to stay on point of your point).

    That is all! :)
