The pond at night
The next door neighbors had a pond when I was growing up, and I always thought there was nothing more peaceful than the sounds of a pond at night, with the lullabies of frogs set to the music of the strings as played by the crickets. Tonight, when I let the dogs out before bed, I heard the sweet symphony again in my own backyard...and it felt even more like home than ever:)

Here's to the Jeffreis' pond amphitheaters...they did provide many hours of concerts! One night they inspired Mr. Combs to share with me one of the funniest stories I ever heard about the time he tried to get into the catfish farm business with a couple of ponds he had before that became a profitable enterprise. I can't remember all the details, but I remember laughing until I hurt as he sat up on that old tractor grinning and chuckling as he embellished that story well into the evening...ahh, great memories!
ReplyDeleteour very own pond with our very own symphony!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great fixture of my childhood. Perhaps that - and the lake across the street in Peachtree City_ is why I feel the need to be close to water wherever I live :)
